Directions to the venue
Address: Pater Damiaanplein, 3000 Leuven
From the airport
Please note that the nearest airport is Brussels National Zaventem Airport. The other main airport in Belgium is Brussels South Charleroi Airport, but it's much further away.
At Brussels National Zaventem, after you have collected your luggage and gone through customs into the arrivals hall, go to your right towards the escalators. Take the escalator down to Level -1 where you will find the train station. There are always several trains an hour going to Leuven. The journey is around 15 minutes and Leuven is the first stop.
On arrival in Leuven, make your way to the front entrance of the station where you will find the taxis. Depending on which platform you arrive, you may have to walk through an underground passage. If so, follow the passage uphill and turn left into the main square. The main entrance to the train station and the taxis will now be to your left, beside the war memorial. A taxi journey to the Irish College should cost around €10. If you wish to walk it should take about 20 minutes and goes right through the historic city centre, so it's a nice walk.
By bus from the train station
The bus station is to the right of the Railway Station when exiting the railway station
Bus number 2 (direction Naamsepoort/Heverlee) leaves from the railway station every 15 minutes (in rush hour between 07.00-9.00 and 16.00-19.00, every 8 minutes). Get off at Sint Michielskerk (St Michael’s Church), which is on your left and on your right is the GB Express supermarket. Walk down Sint Antoniusberg hill and arrive on Pater Damiaanplein. On the left corner of the square is the Leuven Institute for Ireland in Europe.
Walking from the train station (20 mins)
Take Bondegenotenlaan (the big shopping street) which is the long straight street right ahead of you as you come out of the station.
Continue on this road and you will see St Peter’s Cathedral and the town hall as you approach the end of the street. As you enter the Grote Markt- you will see the Town Hall in front of you. Keep St Peter’s Cathedral on your right and the town hall on your left.
Exit the square at the far left corner, with Krokodil toy store opposite you. You will then pass the McDonalds on your left. You are now in the Oude Markt (the Old Square). In the Oude Markt, walk to the very end and turn right onto a short downhill slope and then turn left onto Parijisstraat. Follow Parijisstraat- you’ll see ‘‘Cafe t’Vervolg’’ at the end of the street. Walk towards this until you come to Pater Damiaanplein (small square on your right).
Go to the bottom of the square and take the small street on your left-hand side. The Leuven Institute is the first building on the left. It is a redbrick building with a glass door. You will need to ring the bell on the right-hand side to gain entry.
Please put “Pater Damienplein” in the GPS of the car. From the Leuven ringroad take the" Naamsestraat" into the direction of the towncentre for about 1 km, until the start of a pedestrian zone; before this zone and opposite the “Sint- Michiels“ church (on your right side) take a small street on your left “ Sint Antoniusberg” which will lead you downhill to a square “PaterDamiaanplein” ; the Irish College is in the upper left corner.
However all the spaces in the small Irish College car park have already been reserved for guests staying in accommodation there. Unfortunately parking is quite limited in the area. There is a big private car park in the Naamsestraat (in front of the “Heilig Hart” hospital , number 102 ); from here it is only 10 minutes walk to the venue. Other car parks can be found at .
